Superior Middle School Principal Rick Flaherty will leave his post after 14 years to head Superior High School in 2019-20.

The district announced in February that SHS Principal Greg Posewitz was resigning after two years in the position. The job opening was posted on the district's website Feb. 5.

District Administrator Amy Starzecki announced in an email to staff Friday, March 8, that Flaherty was selected from approximately 20 applicants. SHS support staff, teachers, administrators and instruction coaches were invited to be part of the interview process.

"Some of the skills our team was looking for in applicants included visibility with parents, staff and students; establishing a school vision/goals; and the ability to develop steps to achieve school goals," Starzecki said in her email. "I feel confident Mr. Flaherty is the right fit for SHS."

The school board has not yet voted on the hire.

The district will soon begin its search for a new SMS principal, Starzecki said.

Posewitz served as principal at Ashland High School for four years before taking the helm at SHS in 2017. He replaced Kent Bergum, who retired in July 2017 after 19 years with the district.
