Smith to play in Prospect event

Former Superior Spartan Tim Smith has been selected to play in the North American Hockey League's Top Prospects Tournament Jan. 18-20 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Former Superior Spartan Tim Smith has been selected to play in the North American Hockey League's Top Prospects Tournament Jan. 18-20 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Smith was selected, along with 19 other players, to represent the Central Division of the NAHL.

Smith plays defense for the Owatonna Express and is currently tied for second place in the NAHL for scoring among the defensemen, with 19 points.

Joining Smith in the tournament will be teammates Tony McDonald and Cory Thorson.

The event includes four teams playing in a three-game round-robin format. More than 20 players who competed in last year's tournament earned scholarships to Division I schools.

Smith is the son of Superior's Lyndon and Vickie Smith.
