MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A small earthquake that shook northern Illinois was also felt by residents in southern Wisconsin early Wednesday.

Sharon Holmes in Salem says her TV stopped working and her cupboards made a noise and shook.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit near Virgil, about 50 miles northwest of Chicago, at 4 a.m.

The Kane County Sheriff's Department in Illinois received scores of phone calls, but there are no reports of injuries or serious damage.

One person from Milwaukee told WTMJ-TV she felt the floor moving and shaking and thought it could have been a snow plow dropping a blade.
