On Saturday, free beginning and intermediate cross country ski lessons for children and adults in both the classic and skate styles will be offered at the After Hours Ski Trail.
Ski lessons start at the trailhead at 12:45 p.m. No memberships or trail passes are required.
Children must be registered by a parent or guardian, and children eight and under should be accompanied by an adult.
Rental equipment will be available until 4 p.m., but only for those who have preregistered and are present at the 12:30 p.m. equipment checkout time. The cost for rental skis, boots and poles is $5 for youths 12 and younger and $15 for others.
The ski lessons are sponsored by the Brule Valley Ski Club, the Brule River State Forest, and the Brule Lions Club.

The After Hours trailhead and parking lot are just south of Highway 2 on After Hours Road, which is the first road west of the Brule River.
l The Afterhours Ski Trail has a new brochure. It features an updated ski trail map along with the new snowshoe trail map.
Skiers are reporting seeing a lot of animal tracks along the ski trail. Deer, wolf, coyote and fox are just some tracks that have been seen recently. Trail conditions are considered excellent, so come out and give it a try this weekend . . . maybe you will be able to spot the animals in person out on the trails.
Birkebeiner registration closed
Race registration for the 2010 Birkie and Kortelopet is now closed.
Ned Zuelsdorff, race executive director said entries are still being processed, but a field of about 7,900 entrants is expected -- the largest in history.
There are currently 175 skiers registered for the 12k Prince Haakon. The Prince Haakon event has a registration cap of 250 skiers. Race registration for the Prince Haakon will remain open until the cap is reached for this event.
All skiers who are currently registered may make changes in their race applications until 8 p.m. Feb. 15. For more information call 715-634-5025.
