The Superior Middle School sixth grade boys traveling team took first place in a tournament held in Spooner, Wis. on December 16.
The team won all four games it played, and it won each game by a comfortable margin.
Throughout the tournament the Superior team did not have one standout player but instead got its wins through a strong team effort.
Superior started the tournament facing Washburn. Erick Tunell and Ben Erickson led the team with 11 and 10 points. The final score was a win 44-15.
Next they took on Grand Rapids. The game started with strong defense on both sides. Grand Rapids was ahead 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. Then Superior rallied and pulled ahead by the half.

Superior won the game by a final score of 36-11.
Grant Rindell and James Misfeldt showed strong defensive efforts, blocking out Grand Rapids' attempts at getting close to the basket.
The third game was against Mora. Superior led 15-3 by end of the first quarter and continued to dominate from there. The final score was 41-13 in favor of Superior.
Tunell led the team in scoring with 11 and Raheem Vann added eight points.
The three wins put Superior into the championship game, in which the team played Spooner.
As in the previous games, Superior made its way to a sound victory, winning 47-14.
Dillion Johnson and Blake Raymond on defense this time for Superior. The two stopped any chance the Spooner offense had to get to the basket.
Anthony Valentine led the team in steals and Erickson led the scoring with 15 points.

The team's next scheduled tournament is in Grantsburg on Saturday, Jan. 6.
