Eau Claire Memorial defeated SHS swimmers 101-85 at the Santa Claus Invitational in Eau Claire Friday but not before the Spartans won 8 of 12 events.

Senior Logan Carpenter broke the Eau Claire Memorial pool record and his own team record in the 100 Breaststroke. Logan's time of 1:00.72 improved upon a 1:01.33 effort his sophomore year. Carpenter also cruised to first in the 200 Freestyle. Taylor Johnson won two individual events: the 50 and 100 Freestyle sprints.

Chad Erickson won the one meter diving event, breaking the 200 point barrier in his first six dive competition of the year. Jordan Olson swam a close second to Johnson in the 50 Free and won the 100 backstroke in his first time swimming that event. Olson also swam the backstroke leg of the winning Medley Relay along with David Aller (breaststroke), Carpenter (butterfly) and Johnson (freestyle).

"Their (Wausau East's) team depth was just a little too much for us Friday night," Spartans head coach Lehman said.

" I took a few chances with the line-up which almost paid off as our team swam well. We finished ahead of the Abes at the Santa Claus Invitational on Saturday where our first line swimmers and divers stood out. I split up our sprinting squad in an attempt to go 1-2 in the 200 Free Relay and fell just short."
