The Superior High School girls hockey team got off to a quick start and then held on for its first win over the season with a 2-1 victory over New Richmond Thursday night at the Superior Ice Arena.
The Spartans took a 2-0 lead on a pair of Sadey Laurvick goals in the first 15 seconds of the game. The freshman's first goal came six seconds in and her second came nine seconds later.
Baily Gunderson scored for New Richmond with 4:59 left in the second period.
Superior then had to kill of three penalties in the third period, including a two-minute stretch while skating short two skaters.
Justine Stenberg picked up her first varsity win with 21 saves. Baily Lund had 23 saves for the Tigers.

The Spartans are back in action at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Chippewa Falls.

The Spartans lost to the St. Francis/North Branch Fighting Saints 3-1 Tuesday night at the Superior Ice Arena.
Laurvick, with an assist from Paige Gilbertson, scored for Superior in the first period.
Stenberg finished with 23 saves for the Spartans.
