The Superior High School girls basketball team improved to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in the Lake Superior Conference with a 52-48 win at Cloquet Thursday night.
Superior got well-balanced scoring, including 12 points from Bettye Jo Nelson, eight from Christa Diedriech, seven from MacKenzie Newman, six from Janelle Strewler, five from Ashley Knight and four apiece from Raya Kosey, Mary Beth Amys and Sam DeMeyer.
Free-throw shooting was key in Superior's win as the Spartans made 14-of-16 overall, including 6-of-6 down the stretch by Kosey Diedrich and DeMeyer.
Superior's defense also limited Annabel Morrisroe to just 12 points, this after she scored 34 points in a big win over the Spartans earlier in the season.
"It was a total team effort," SHS coach Dan Schulz said. "We shot well at the line and did exceptionally well on defense."
