SHS girls clinch share of LSC title

The Superior High School girls basketball clinched at least a share of the Lake Superior Conference championship with a 59-46 win over Duluth Denfeld Thursday night in the SHS gym.

The Superior High School girls basketball clinched at least a share of the Lake Superior Conference championship with a 59-46 win over Duluth Denfeld Thursday night in the SHS gym.

The Spartans increased their lead in the LSC to six points over Proctor. Superior is now 11-5 overall and 9-1 in the LSC with 24 points. Proctor has 18 points with record of 8-12 and 7-2.

Shannon Lehikoinen led the Spartans with 16 points. Britnee Blake added 12 points, Taylor Kosey had nine, Rachel Samuelson seven, Laura Amys six, Bettye Nelson five and Kara Hoff four.

Blake, Hoff and Kosey had a 3-pointer apiece for Superior.

Hayley Reider led the Hunters with 12 points.

Superior led 33-21 at the half and the was outscored 26-25 in the second half.

The Spartans have four games remaining in the regular season. They host Proctor on Thursday then after playing at Eau Claire Memorial on Feb. 16, they host Hayward and Rice Lake on Feb. 18 and Feb. 22, respectively.
