The Superior High School freshmen football team has compiled a 4-0 record so far this season.
The Spartans kicked off the season with a 6-0 win over Duluth East at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth. Zach Lackner scored the games only touchdown on a 23-yard scamper. The Spartan defense was led by Anthony Valentine with 12 tackles, Ben Erickson with 10 tackles and Raheem Vann with two interceptions.
Next up for the Spartans was a 21-8 win at Ashland. Vann scored all of the Spartan touchdowns on 13- and 39-yard runs and a 10-yard pass from Spencer Urban. Vann also kicked an extra point and Urban rushed for a two-point conversion. Valentine led the defensive charge with 13 tackles, Mike DeMoure added 11 tackles and William Wells got an interception.
The Spartans then defeated Rice Lake 12-6 on Sept. 17 on the road. Erickson started the scoring with an 8-yard run and Vann added the final points on a 30-yard run. Valentine again led the defense with 11 tackles while Erickson added 10.
A trip to Proctor on Sept. 24 gave the Spartans their fourth victory with a 42-20 win over the Rails. Urban started the Spartan scoring onslaught with an 18-yard run. Erickson then returned a fumble 23 yards for a Spartan score. Tucker Thul scored the next touchdown on a 17-yard pass from Urban. Erickson again scored a touchdown on a fumble return, this time from 16 yards out. Wells got into the scoring column with a 1-yard plunge into the end zone. The final Spartan touch down was scored by DeMoure on a 41-yd run. Vann kicked four extra points and Wells added a two-point conversion.

The Spartan freshmen will make their first home appearance of the season at 5 p.m. on Thursday when they host Hermantown at Ole Haugsrud Field. Admission is free.
