From 2002 to 2006, my mayoral administration helped to change the course of our community. We created an award-winning Comprehensive Plan, which was recognized as the best in the state for a community of our size. The planning document is full of new ideas and strategies to grow our economy. If the current and future administrations follow the plan, in just a few years; Ashland will be the best community in Wisconsin.
We envisioned a sustainable economy to benefit all of Ashland's residents, not just some of them. We were part of a team, including State Rep. Gary Sherman, D-Port Wing, that brought in millions of dollars in new private and public investment, including millions of dollars in new public infrastructure in the next few years. These funds provided needed new roads, sanitary sewer, updated water mains, sidewalks, street lighting and security for our airport.
Sherman joined Gov. Jim Doyle and his cabinet, Sen. Bob Jauch, R-Poplar and Congressman Dave Obey, D-Wis., on many occasions to hear directly from our residents. Ashland government is now more democratic, accessible and open to the people. We have started down the path of making Ashland an exceptional community which will benefit us, our children and grandchildren, thanks in no small part to Sherman's efforts.
Sherman helped our community and our plans for the future by making them a reality. In addition to assistance with funding, Gary regularly helped us to make connections to the proper State Department's staff to assist with funding or technical assistance for our plans. Sherman also took the time to explain the steps necessary to work through the various state rules and regulations.

Sherman is a tireless advocate for the people of northern Wisconsin and helped to ensure that our community's issues were heard in the state Capitol. In my opinion, the people of northern Wisconsin are fortunate to have Sherman as their representative in Madison
Sherman's past and future good work for the people of the 74th Assembly District merit his re-election to office as State Representative. I encourage you to vote in the primary on Sept. 9 and to re-elect Sherman.
