Superior's landmark Fairlawn Mansion and Museum embraced a treasure trove of youthful and beautiful girls recently when the former Lambda Sigma Lambda and Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority of UWS gathered together for their 'Sentimental Journey' reunion tea as part of the Greek/Air Force/ROTC Reunion Weekend.

The gentility of Fairlawn provided the ideal setting for 36 Lambda and Sigma sisters to journey through the college's 1940-1970 years, spryly meeting one another with enthralling smiles, open arms and heartwarming conversations.

It was truly a 'sentimental journey' of perusing together the scores of scrapbooks that recorded the four decades of sorority members' activities; "Ohhing" and "Ahhing" recognitions; tea sipping; feasting on a delectable luncheon; delighting in a program of remembering highlights and being offered opportunities for continued involvement with UWS fundraising; enjoying the ragtime keyboard and vocal talents of Lambda sister, Yvonne Cloutier, with Lambdas and Sigmas standing arm-in-arm through the mansion's hallway and stairwell swaying and singing in unison, to the sorority's rendition of 'Sentimental Journey.' Lambda sister, Laura Fuller, then contributed a change of mood with her keyboard accompaniment to a harmonious chorus of the Lambda Sigma Lambda theme song echoing throughout the historic Fairlawn Mansion.

As the Lambdas gathered on the exterior front stairs of the museum for a group picture, the Lake Superior wind picked up and rustled hairdos. The picture itself shows the tousled graying locks of mature and accomplished women who were for a couple of hours on a 'Sentimental Journey' back to being young, gifted and aspiring blondes, brunettes, and redheads.

The Sentimental Journey reunion tea committee was made up of Kathy Gobler Metsala, invitations; Lynne Skemp Hoff, finances; Judi Hillbo Konop, data base records and display; Rosemary McKinnon Ferris, Kathy Darst Berchild, Ann Marie Nelson Novack, details; and Marj Oglesby Echter, emcee.
