CWAG forum in Ashland focuses on aging issues

The Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups (CWAG) hosts a Senior Issues Forum Sept. 29 to provide information on issues affecting the aging and to serve as an arena for attendees to talk with current legislators and candidates.

The meeting will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ashland Senior Center, located at 400 Chapple Ave., Ashland.

"This meeting is a fantastic opportunity for residents in Douglas County to learn about issues affecting the aging population in their own communities," said Paula Gibson, CWAG community organizer for northwestern Wisconsin. "It will also help them learn to strengthen their collective voice and ultimately their vote to make a huge difference in how seniors in Wisconsin are treated today and in the future."

Attendees will hear a presentation on "Homelessness in Northern Wisconsin" by Mary Jane Grande, RSVP homeless coordinator. In addition, Pam Van Kampen, nutrition specialist for the Northern Area Agency on Aging will speak.

"In addition, I'll be providing information on CWAG's Prescription Drug Information Center, which will be especially important for those seniors who are facing the Medicare Part D doughnut hole," said Gibson. "CWAG can help you save 30 percent to 50 percent on your prescription and over-the-counter medications. Just bring your list of medications and dosages and let me see if CWAG can't add some filling to your doughnut hole."

You do not need to be a member of CWAG to attend, All are welcome. The cost is $5 per person, which includes lunch and coffee break items. RSVP by Sept. 22 to Mary Jane Grande at (715) 292-7862.
