A recovery mission on the Chippewa River for a male who plunged from a rail trestle north of downtown Eau Claire Saturday afternoon was called off again Sunday and may not resume until later this week.

According to the Eau Claire Police Department, the city Fire Department continued to search for the man Sunday morning but found nothing.

Fire Department boats were in the water during Saturday afternoon, searching the Chippewa River after a fisherman downstream from the trestle told authorities about the incident. The incident was reported at about 3 p.m.

The search effort has been complicated by high water flow and the natural structure of the river, according to Fire Department officials.

For now, said police Sgt. Travis Quella, authorities have ruled out foul play.

"He was the only person on the bridge," he said Saturday.

The investigation into the incident continues. Authorities haven't yet determined if the fall was intentional.
