Search continues for apparent drowning victim

HAYWARD (AP) -- The Sawyer County Sheriff's Department says the search for a 44-year-old man presumed drowned in Lake La Courte Oreilles (lah-coot-ah-RAY') continued for a fifth day Thursday.

Paul E. Dust disappeared late Saturday night.

Dave Zebro, a regional warden with the state Department of Natural Resources, says Dust and his two teenage sons were crossing the lake in a small boat about 10 p.m. after spearfishing along the shoreline.

Zebro says high winds caused a wave to capsize the boat. The teens swam to safety even though the water temperature was only 39 degrees.

Zebro says the search for the missing father's body is complicated because the lake -- some 2,000 acres -- is 50 feet deep in places where it's believed he disappeared.
