The Northwestern High School wrestling team finished ninth out of 16 teams at the 2006 Barron Wrestling Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers had two athletes finishing in first place, senior Wes Ronchi and freshman Nathan Nelson
"This year's wrestling team is not very experienced (one senior, two juniors and 20 freshmen and sophomores), but I'm very pleased and a coach could not ask for more enjoyable young men to work with," NHS coach Bob Coleman said. "For us to finish in the middle of this tough tournament is a good solid team effort."
Ronchi defeated two state qualifiers to win the championship in his weight class. To get into the finals Ronchi defeated Myles Deiss of Osceola, who defeated him last year at the sectional meet. Coleman said Ronchi wrestled a very smart and controlled match in Saturday's finals as he defeated Brett Jenson of Barron 9-3.
Nelson also finished first in his weight class in what was his first varsity outing.

"He was very physical today, and he started the day out by pinning the No. 3 seeded wrestler from Osceola in 5:03," Coleman said. "In the finals he dominated his match and then pinned Nick Turany of New Richmond in 5:04."
Northwestern hosts Barron on Tuesday. On Thursday the team will travel to Ladysmith before hosting the Mackey Invitational on Saturday.
