Ribbons cut for Lake Superior NERR

The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve at the University of Wisconsin-Superior is among the community partners in the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve, encompassing nearly 17,000 acres of publicly owned land and water where the St. Louis River enters the largest of the Great Lakes.
UWS students, faculty and staff can play a role in research, education and stewardship efforts of the reserve.
The Lake Superior NERR occupies two waterfront buildings on Barker’s Island. The buildings were purchased with money obtained through a grant from NOAA and are now part of the UWS campus. The buildings will house administration offices, a dockside laboratory, a science and interpretive center - still under renovation - and several classrooms.
Lake Superior NERR facilities are available to visiting educators, researchers and members of the public. The complex is also home to UW-Extension and Wisconsin Sea Grant, both have an affiliation with NOAA.
