Douglas County residents get a chance Thursday to get an up close look at the big, hardworking vehicles that rule the roads.

The Northern Lights Family Resource Center is hosting Mighty Machines, an event featuring emergency vehicles, construction vehicles and a big rig. A tractor may also make an appearance at the event 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Superior Middle School.

The event is something that families can do together and helps satisfy kids' curiosity about these vehicles, said Donna Matlock of the resource center. Children, and most adults, don't often have the opportunity to explore these vehicles, she said.

The vehicles will include Superior Police Department and Douglas County Fire department vehicles, a Halvor Line Mack truck, a school bus, a dump truck and an excavator.

Admission is free. A meal including a hot dog, chips, cookie and a beverage will be on sale for $2. The event is open to people of all ages.
