A bridge rehabilitation project on U.S. Highway 53 between E Street and Fifth Street is underway.

Starting Monday, work began on the southbound lane during the first phase of the project. Traffic is being diverted to the northbound lane, and there is a 12-foot lane restriction for anyone traveling in either direction.

Motorists can expect travel delays.

This project will include a concrete surface repair, joint repair, column reinforcement, approach work, pavement marking and signing. Work on the southbound lane is expected to be complete by the end of August. At that time, traffic will be routed into the southbound lane as work begins on the northbound side of U.S. Highway 53.
