Red Mug part of Earth Day Gallery Hop

In honor of 39th Anniversary of Earth Day several downtown Duluth galleries, Duluth Art Institute, Washington Studios Artist's Cooperative, Tweed Museum of Art, UMD and the Red Mug Gallery, will be hosting free receptions on Saturday from 11 a.m....

In honor of 39th Anniversary of Earth Day several downtown Duluth galleries, Duluth Art Institute, Washington Studios Artist's Cooperative, Tweed Museum of Art, UMD and the Red Mug Gallery, will be hosting free receptions on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Port Town Trolley will run free shuttle service continuously joining all of the Duluth events.

The 19th Annual Gallery Hop is being held as part of Earth Day week.

"Clasp: New and Selected Work of Sarah Brokke" is currently on display at the Red Mug Gallery, 916 Hammond Ave. www.redmugcoffee.com

The work includes figurative and portrait-based paintings exploring gender roles, power and the concept of beauty. Many of the displayed works depict local, women whom have shown unwavering strength in their lives.

"Rob Quisling: New Work"

Quisling is a printmaker, photographer, and installation artist. His past projects have explored developmental disabilities, feminism, and fathers as primary care givers. DULUTH PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION

"Public Art in Public Places". Trolley greeters and buskers performing at each location during hop on April 18th.

The mission of the Public Arts Commission is to support public art as a community investment. The

Public Arts Commission preserves and promotes current and future art in public places by identifying

artists for public works, selecting appropriate locations for that artwork, and establishing those physical

works of art within the community. The Public Arts Commission also utilizes resources of the

City of Duluth, such as architects, engineers, planners and historians, to integrate public art into the

community while supporting activities that surround public art. These pursuits encourage

partnerships that further the awareness of beauty in the community and nurture enthusiasm for the

local environment, which ultimately proves beneficial to the citizens of Duluth.
