Superior police are warning boat owners to keep their outboard motors secure.

In less than a month, five motors have been stolen with three of them disappearing Thursday night, according to Superior Police Capt. Charles LaGesse. Four of the motors weren't locked up and the lock was cut on the fifth, he said.

LaGesse said boat owners should secure their outboard motors with locks available through most marine supply stores. Those secured with cables can be easily stolen he said. Boats that can't be secured in a garage should be stored in a well-lighted area, he said.

The thefts have occurred all over the city.

Police are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in the thefts. Anyone having information is asked to call the Superior police tipline at 395-7468.
