MADISON - Department of Corrections Secretary Rick Raemisch on Friday announced the appointment of Wayne Olson as superintendent of Gordon Correctional Center. The correctional facility is the northernmost Center of the Wisconsin Correctional Center System, about 2½ miles southeast of the town of Gordon in Douglas County.
"Wayne Olson has a strong track record of public service in our adult prison system," Raemisch said in a prepared statement. "His experience in corrections and his talents will complement the correctional center and its mission to provide safe, secure and humane custody of offenders, while preparing them for success when they return to the community."
Olson has 15 years of experience working for the corrections department. He is the first shift relief captain at Jackson Correctional Institution. His employment history began in 1995 as a correctional officer at Waupun Correctional Institution.
Olson's experience includes positions as correctional officer, sergeant, lieutenant, unit supervisor and program director. He also has worked at Wisconsin Secure Program Facility, Black River Correctional Center, Columbia Correctional Institution, Stanley Correctional Institution, and Chippewa Valley Correctional Treatment Facility.
In addition to volunteering on various corrections department work groups and committees, Olson served in the military from 1993 to 2000 and is active in his community. Olson will start his new role Aug. 1.
