Wisconsin Public Radio station KUWS-FM broadcasts a re-creation of the day that Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japanese bombers on Dec. 7, 1941. Friday night (Feb. 26) "Radio Superior" will have episodes from December 7, 8, 9, and 17, circa 1941, using actual local news stories of the day from the Superior Evening Telegram and music from 1941.
Broadcasters Lew Martin and Jack McKenna host the special broadcasts along with a cast of local actors when news of the attack on Pearl Harbor came in after noon on Dec. 7, 1941. It includes audio one of the first radio reports from the NBC Blue Network from Hawaii about the attack.
Cameos include former Douglas County Sheriff Richard Pukema playing then Superior Police Chief Arthur Buchanan and Congressman Dave Obey reading a statement from Congressman Barnard Gehrmann who represented northern Wisconsin at that time.
"Radio Superior" is a production of Wisconsin Public Radio station KUWS 91.3 FM in Superior and 102.9 FM in Ashland. It airs episodes every Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
