"Anna in the Tropics" is the next performance in the College of St. Scholastica's 2008-2009 theater season.

The play begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the St. Scholastica Theatre.

Other performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7, 12, 13 and 14, and 2 p.m. Feb. 15. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for senior citizens and non-St. Scholastica students (with identification), and $5 for St. Scholastica students.

The play, written by Cuban-American playwright Nilo Cruz, won the Pulitzer Prize in drama in 2003 and received two nominations at the 2004 Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Featured Actress in a Play. Set in 1929, it tells the story of a family of cigar workers as tradition of the times change.

"One of the unique qualities of the script is its blend of tragic and comic elements," said director Tammy Ostrander, professor and dean of the School of Arts and Letters at St. Scholastica. "That blend also presents a challenge for the actors who must control the mood of each moment in the play."
