The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is now accepting public comment on a proposal to build the Nemadji Trail Energy Center in Superior.
South Shore Energy LLC, is a Wisconsin-based subsidiary of ALLETE/Minnesota Power, and Dairyland Power Cooperative applied for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to connect the proposed Nemadji Trail Energy Center to the existing transmission system partially owned by American Transmission Company located in the city of Superior and towns of Superior and Parkland.
The proposed Nemadji Trail Energy Center in Superior would support Minnesota Power and Dairyland Power Cooperative efforts to expand wind and solar energy by creating a 550-megawatt reliable alternative when wind and solar generation capabilities are insufficient to meet demand.
Construction of the $700 million state-of-the-art natural gas power generation facility is expected to begin in 2020 with completion slated for 2025. It would generate about 260 construction jobs and create 25 full-time jobs once complete.
