The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has scheduled an information meeting Thursday about recent cleanup activities and the potential redevelopment of the former U.S. Steel mill site in Duluth's Morgan Park neighborhood.

The meeting will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Goodfellowship Community Center at 1302 88th Ave. West. MPCA and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff will be available for 30 minutes before and after the meeting to answer questions.

The meeting runs 6:30-8 p.m.

The former U.S. Steel mill site was declared a Superfund site in 1983. In 1989, a formal cleanup plan identified and addressed 18 areas for cleanup and two other areas were identified for future remedial actions.

Documents related to the site's first and second Five-Year Reviews, and formal processes used to determine if previously-conducted cleanups were effective, were completed in 2003 and 2008 and the results are available at the Duluth Public Library, West Duluth branch at 5830 Grand Ave., and on the Web at www.pca.state.mn.us/cleanup/sites/ussteel/index.html .
