WHITEWATER, Wis. - The St. Scholastica baseball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 12-1 Wednesday in the opening round of the NCAA Midwest Regional, hosted by UW-Whitewater on Prucha Field.

The Pointers (30-15) struck early and often. After an RBI-double, Sam Spurney hit a three-run home run over the left-field fence to make it 4-0 before the first out of the game was recorded. Stevens Point sent nine batters to the plate in the inning.

The Pointers added to that lead in the fifth when Jeremy Richter hit a two-run home run. Stevens Point then tallied three runs with two outs in the sixth to extend the margin to 9-0. The Pointers tacked on three more runs in the eighth.

The Saints got their one and only run in the bottom of the ninth when Joe Link scored on a double-play to make the final margin 12-1. The 11-run loss is tied for the worst loss this season, dating back to the Rutgers-Camden 20-9 loss in Florida.

The Saints managed just four hits in the contest. Jeff Adams picked up his first loss of the season. Joel Delorit earned the win for the Pointers. Stevens Point finished with 19 hits in the contest.
