A pasture walk to highlight the management and grazing plan for beef cattle begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Dale and Sharon Nummi farm in Poplar. The farm is just over a mile north of U.S. Highway 2 off 22 Road in the town of Amnicon. Pasture condition, fencing, water supply and paddock layout are discussed. The Lake Superior Watershed no-till drill will be available for a pasture renovation demonstration.
Dale Peacock, Lake Superior Grazing Network specialist and Jane Anklam UW-Extension Agricultural Educator will facilitate.
"There continues to be a surge in the use of managed rotational grazing to raise beef in Douglas County. The pasture walk offers the opportunity for those using the method to share ideas with their peers and with producers who are just starting out growing beef cattle" said Anklam. UW-Extension, Douglas County offered a Beef Cow University this winter. Program graduates are implementing their new knowledge on Douglas County farms this growing season.
