In other business Tuesday night, the city council:

  • Authorized the sale of $10 million in bonds to support AMSOIL Inc.'s $15 million expansion project. The company is responsible for repaying the bonds; the city has no liability in the sale.
  • Approved transferring city-owned land at North Fifth Street and Odgen Avenue to the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Superior. The transfer allows the authority to work with Total Tool LLC for a development agreement before the land is sold to the Wisconsin limited liability company.
  • Referred a special use permit zoning issue to the Plan Commission for the Barker's Island Inn expansion project, and approved a cooperation agreement for the project.
  • Changed the city's election code to create a municipal board of absentee canvassers. The move will allow a separate panel determine the sufficiency of absentee ballot envelopes before they are sent to polling sites in a sealed envelope for counting. City Clerk Margaret Ciccone said the change will allow election judges at the city's polling sites to focus their attention on people coming into the site. The entire process is open to the public, she said.
