HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Senior forward Brett Olson will once again be the captain for the Michigan Tech hockey team.

"He was the captain here last year, and he gives you a number of attributes you look for in a captain," Huskies first-year head coach Mel Pearson said. "First and foremost, the character and person that he is; he's a serious student with good moral values, and he's a hard worker. Obviously on the ice, he has the attitude, work ethic and consistency that we're looking for in every player ... so it seemed like a good choice for our program."

The coaching staff has not named assistant captains yet.

According to Olson, a former Superior Spartan, it's a nice honor and a vote of confidence from the coaching staff, but he knows it involves leading by example in every decision, both on and off the ice.

"It's going to have to be something I carry with me, not just a letter on my chest," Olson said. "I'm going to do what I can to make sure we're doing things the right way and getting better as a team every day through the entire season."

The Huskies began on-ice practices Sept. 15 in preparation for an Oct. 1 exhibition game against Lakehead. The regular season will kick off against American International (Oct. 7-8) and Wisconsin (Oct. 14-15) back-to-back weekends at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
