An Oliver man found guilty of sexually assaulting a child younger than 13 will spend 20 years behind bars.

In August, a Douglas County jury found 48-year-old Frank Tyrone Whitehead guilty of first-degree child sex assault and felony threats to injure or accuse of a crime based on a January incident in Whitehead's residence.

Citing the need to protect the public and Whitehead's substantial criminal history, Douglas County Circuit Court Judge George Glonek handed down a 35-year sentence Friday.

The sentence includes 20 years initial confinement and 15 years of extended supervision. Whitehead was ordered to provide a DNA specimen, register as a sex offender and undergo chemical dependency and sex offender evaluations. He also was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the child's family.

Whitehead asked a child who stopped by his house if she wanted to make money by helping him clean the house. He led her to the bedroom and asked her to pick up something off the floor. When she bent down to pick it up, he grabbed her by the legs and assaulted her. He also forced her to touch his genitals. As the child ran out of the house to get away, Whitehead said if you tell anybody, I will make you disappear.
