Old mob hangout is on the market
The law has Al Capone once again. This time it's in the form of a sheriff's foreclosure sale on his private lodge and lake in northern Wisconsin.
The Chicago beer baron used this 407 acre property, 20 miles southeast of Hayward literally as a get-away in the 1920's until he was sent to prison in 1932. Now, Chippewa Valley Bank will put it up for sheriff's auction on Oct. 8. Bank Vice-President Joe Kinnear says there's lots of interest, even though the minimum asking price is $2.6 million.
"Since we put the sheriff's sale advertisement in the Chicago Tribune this past Sunday,we've gotten a bunch of calls," Kinnear says.
Scarface's property includes a 37 acre private lake, an eight car garage, a guard tower and a jail cell.

Since Capone's death, the buildings were converted into a lodge, restaurant and museum, but they all went out of business this year, forcing the foreclosure.
