Odin E. Jossund, 82, longtime South Range area resident, currently of the Way Road, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, unexpectedly in his home.

He was born April 12, 1924, in Vikan, Norway to John A. and Oline (Olsen) Jossund.

Odin arrived in the United States from Norway in 1931. He attended the former McKinley and Washington schools in South Range.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in artillery having served in the European Theatre.

Odin was a plant operator for Murphy Oil for more than 28 years before his retirement.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers labor union affiliated with Murphy Oil. Odin enjoyed farming, woodworking and metal fabrication.

He is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Peggy) Jossund, South Range, Edward Jossund, South Range, Daniel Jossund, Lakewood, Colo.; their mother, Edith Jossund, Superior; 10 grandchildren, Benjamin (Kristina) Jossund, South Range, Jeremy Jossund, Superior, Nathaniel (Rebekah) Jossund, Montrose, Colo., Timothy Jossund, South Range, Samuel Jossund, South Range, Josiah Jossund, South Range, Jessica Jossund, Superior, Susanna Jossund, South Range, Deborah Jossund, South Range, and Naomi Jossund, South Range; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Odin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home and continues Friday at 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service also in the funeral home. Pastor Mark Wagenschutz, of Twin Ports Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.

Pallbearers for the service will be Odin's six grandsons, Benjamin Jossund, Jeremy Jossund, Nathaniel Jossund, Timothy Jossund, Samuel Jossund and Josiah Jossund. The honorary pallbearer will be John Maynard.
