The Northwood High School boys basketball team fell to Shell Lake 66-58 at home Tuesday night.

The game was back and forth for most of the night and after two quarters the teams were only a basket apart as Shell Lake led 24-22. In the third quarter Shell Lake extended its lead slightly to 41-36.

In the fourth quarter, NHS coach Paul Vaara said both teams picked up the pace. From the way both teams were playing, Vaara said it seemed like a completely different game Shell Lake scored 25 points in the final quarter while the Evergreens scored 22, which for both teams was eight more total points than they had scored in any of the preceding three quarters.

The Evergreens were down by 13 at one point but came back to move within two. In the end, though, Shell Lake came away with the 66-58 win.

Shell Lake's Sam Gronning led all scorers with 22 points. Three Evergreen players scored in double figures as Derek Denninger led with 12 points and Zach Haynes and Reese Stariha each had 10.

"We're still young (and are) still learning a new system with a new coach," Vaara said. "We'll get on the winning side here one of these nights."
