NOTE: The Northwood boys and girls also won Tuesday night. The Evergreen boys defeated Cameron 67-60 and the girls won 58-48 at Pine City, Minn. These games will be updated in Friday's paper.
The Northwood High School girls basketball team remained perfect Friday when the Evergreens defeated Bruce-Weyerhaeuser 76-33 in Minong. Northwood is now 15-0 and 8-0 in the Central Lakeland Conference.
Evergreen head coach Jason Schultz said his girls played an uncharacteristically sluggish first half before taking command of the game in the second. Northwood outscored Bruce 29-6 in the third quarter.
Freshman Sara Benson had a breakout game with 23 points to lead the Evergreens. Annie Block added 19 points for Northwood and Rachel Hanley finished with 13.
The Evergreen girls were in Pine City, Minn. Tuesday to face the class AA Dragons, and on Thursday Northwood travels to Cameron for a game that will benefit breast cancer research and awareness. T-shirts have been sold for the match and Minong-based Jack Link's has agreed to donate money based upon attendance, with an extra sum added for those who wear pink.

Tough week ahead
The Northwood boys defeated Bruce 66-43 Friday. From rebounding and defense to consistent shooting, Northwood coach Paul Vaara said his team was hitting on all cylinders Friday.
"One of the best all-around games we played all year," Vaara said. "Hopefully this will springboard us into a tough week."
The Evergreens played Cameron, currently second in the conference, Tuesday and host conference-leading Clayton (17-1), ranked No. 4 in the state, Friday.
Brian Albano led Northwood with 21 points against Bruce, Sam Radzak had 17 and Brad Ross finished with 13. The Evergreens are now 8-9 overall.
