Hundreds of new students began moving into residence halls at the University of Wisconsin-Superior this morning as the university prepares to begin a new academic year.

The university expects total enrollment to be about 2,770 students when fall classes begin Tuesday. That number includes undergraduate, graduate and distance education students.

During today's Move-In Day activities, new students and their families arrived on campus carrying clothes, computers and furniture to student rooms. Dozens of student and university employee volunteers assisted the new arrivals.

After moving in, students and their families are enjoying refreshments at the hospitality tent in front of the Health & Wellness Center. The tent was sponsored by the Superior/Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, Bernick's Pepsi, the UW-Superior Campus Recreation Office and the UW-Superior Student Health Services Office.

New students will spend this weekend in orientation sessions, getting to know each other, the campus and the Superior-Duluth metro area. Orientation sessions deal with such topics as opening university computer accounts, linking to the computer network from residence hall rooms, and learning how to register for classes online.

The students also will help the community by picking up litter on Wisconsin Point and learn teamwork skills on the Superior Challenge Ropes Course on campus.
