Wisconsin renters can now use a free online service to find affordable housing across the state.
The newly launched service allows potential tenants to search for rentals based on things like affordability and supportive services.
Nina Miller is with SocialServe.com: a national non-profit provider of housing locator services. She says Wisconsin officials contacted them earlier this year and helped them to create the online resource for rental housing in the state.
Miller says a primary focus of the housing locator service is for people to find what they're looking for. "We really want this service to appeal to anybody looking for a unit, whether that be a student, or ... somebody transitioning into a higher level of care units and everything in between."
The service was funded through a partnership of state agencies. Properties on the website range from private market-rate units to assisted and accessible housing units.

Listed under the Douglas County section on the website are Northernaire Apartments in Superior and St. Croix West Apartments in Solon Springs. According to the listings, rent is income-based and income-restricted at both Northernaire and St. Croix West.
One organization that's listed apartments is Bayview Foundation, Inc. -- it operates Bayview Townhouses in Madison and serves people with low-to-moderate income. David Haas is the executive director. He says he saw listing the apartments as a chance to reach more people. "Even though we have a long waiting list, it's nice to be able to get people that hear about us," Haas said. "We always try to work with everybody, and I think the more people that know about us is good."
Call center support is also available for the service Monday through Friday.
