The luck of the draw -- a queen of diamonds -- decided Superior's next council president.
And a three-way race for the council vice president was narrowed down to a decision to give the role to a past president of the council.
Tuesday night, the council reorganized, swearing in re-elected councilor Tom Bridge, Chuck Hendry and Esther Dalbec, as well as new members Greg Mertzig and Mike Herrick.
Mertzig was elected to serve the 4th District and Herrick was chosen to replace Rep. Nick Milroy after the assemblyman joined the Wisconsin Legislature in January. Milroy finished out his term on the council, which expired this month.
Councilor Dan Olson drew the lucky card when the council split twice 5-5 between him and Bridge, who served as council president the previous year. Olson's queen won out over Bridge's three, making Olson the new council president.

Councilors nominated Bob Finsland, Ed Anderson and Warren Bender for vice president. After Anderson was eliminated in the first round of voting, Finsland won the vice presidency when the council divided 6-4.
