Approximately 475 pounds of beef was donated to the Damiano Center and the Superior Salvation Army by National Bank of Commerce last week.

At the Douglas County Beef Improvement Association's 42nd Annual Livestock Auction in July, the bank purchased a cow. The animal's price went over $2,500 before the gavel fell. Now, approximately three weeks later, the roasts, hamburger and stew meat are being picked up by the two community service organizations, who will use the meat to feed residents in need.

"We commend the youth participants of 4-H and FFA who hand raise these animals for the auction," said Brad Roden, commercial loan office at the bank.

Roden, along with Troy Lambert, senior eServices officer, bid on behalf of the bank at this year's auction.

"National Bank of Commerce strongly supports this program and the youths' initiative," said Roden. "It's a pleasure to know that we are adding to the learning experiences of these kids. However, we don't stop there. By donating our purchase, we pass the efforts of these kids along and provide food to those in need in our communities."
