A Lake Nebagamon man died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash the morning of May 10.

Theron D. Kappes, 29, was driving his motorcycle to work when he struck a deer near the west junction of County Highways B and P, according to information from the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. Kappes had been ejected and was unconscious at the scene. It appeared that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff's department.

Gold Cross Ambulance transported Kappes to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital. He died of his injuries on May 12. According to his obituary, which ran in Wednesday's Telegram, Kappes became an organ donor. The knowledge that he lives on through the many lives he changed as an organ donor gives his family comfort, the obituary stated.

Visitation for Kappes begins at noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service today at Range Funeral Home, Virginia, Minn.
