While Democrats in the House and Senate have not yet rolled out their priorities for the 2023 legislative session, Gov. Tim Walz and prominent DFL lawmakers have already expressed support for legalization.
Six gubernatorial candidates will be on the ballot, including one each from the state’s two pro-legal marijuana parties, an advocate for an alternative democratic system and a candidate for the Socialist Workers Party.
The Republican candidate for governor called for supporting copper-nickel mining in northern Minnesota, a controversial practice that could bring many high-paying jobs to the region but threaten to pollute its water resources.
