I recently retired after teaching political science courses at Lake Superior College for many years. Beyond the classroom, I served on the Douglas County Board of Supervisors and spend more years than I care to admit to observing as well as being active in many local, state and national political campaigns. Most of these involved support for Democrats although I have "split a ticket" or two. I feel compelled to vote for Nick Milory because he is fighting the "good fight" as the underdog against a slick, glib and well-heeled political machine now endorsed by corporate moguls at the Duluth News Tribune who have all but destroyed Superior's local newspaper. Milroy is fighting the same forces that Bob LaFollette, Harry Truman and others fought for the real people so many years ago and that is why I am proud to say he has my wholehearted support on Sept. 9 in his uphill climb for the State Assembly.

Editors note: The Duluth News Tribune has endorsed no one in the 73rd District Assembly race. The Daily Telegram's editorial board, which includes two Douglas County residents, made its endorsement Monday.
