Mercedes S. Buffalo Aiken Alto, formerly of Superior, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, in the Chippewa Falls Hospital surrounded by her family. Born Dec. 5, 1915, in Red Cliff, she was the daughter of Chief Martin Buffalo and Charlotte Charette Buffalo.

Mercedes S. Buffalo Aiken Alto, formerly of Superior, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, in the Chippewa Falls Hospital surrounded by her family.

Born Dec. 5, 1915, in Red Cliff, she was the daughter of Chief Martin Buffalo and Charlotte Charette Buffalo.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence F. Aiken; second husband, Arthur R. Alto; son, Ronald F. Aiken; and daughter, Ann Marie Brochu Boursaw.

Surviving are her children, Lawrence (Merch) Aiken, Chippewa Falls, Dorothy (John) Cotter, Brisbin, Pa., Raymond (JoAnn) Aiken, Superior, Margaret (Paul) Chiles, Chippewa Falls, Karen Shaw, Osceola Mills, Pa.; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and seven great, great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of Christ the King Church. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ronald Jr., Raymond Jr., Paul Jr., Bill, Matthew and Joseph.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
