Meeting addresses release of 3 sex offenders in Superior

All three will be living on North 16th Street near the library.

The release of three registered sex offenders in Superior will be the focus of a 5 p.m. community meeting Wednesday, July 10, in the board room on the second floor of the Douglas County Government Center.

All three will be living at 1620 N. 16th St., less than a block from the Superior Library, according to a notification from Assistant Chief Matt Markon with the Superior Police Department.

Phillip Bacon, 43, will be released Friday, July 19. He was convicted in Douglas County Court in 2002 of false imprisonment of a juvenile acquaintance and is on lifetime GPS tracking. Additional convictions include first degree recklessly endangering safety, felon possessing a firearm, failure to update sex offender information, bail jumping, battery, contempt of court and possession of methamphetamine.

Steven Metzig, 28, will be released Tuesday, July 23. In November 2013 and October 2014, Metzig was convicted in Douglas County Circuit Court of sexual assault of a child and is on lifetime GPS tracking. The victim was a juvenile female relative.

Michael Garcia, 40, is also being released Tuesday, July 23. He was convicted in California in 2000 of lewd act with a child by force or fear and has a 1994 conviction for second degree sexual assault in Bayfield County. Garcia must remain on the sex offender registry for life.
