The state Medical Examining Board decided Tuesday to investigate 11 additional doctors for writing sick notes during Capitol protests last year.

The doctors are not among the nine the state sanctioned last year. The additional doctors were named in records the Madison School District released to the State Journal and other media in December after a lawsuit by the newspaper.

A screening panel of the medical board decided Tuesday to investigate the additional doctors, said Katie Koschnick, spokeswoman for the state Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Koschnick said the doctors are: James Bigham, Susan Carson, Meaghan Combs, Jessica Dalby, Jennifer Edgoose, Laurel Mark, Dipesh Navsaria, Jacqueline Redmer, Richard Schmelzer, Srivani Sridhar and Melissa Stiles.

The doctors, like most of those sanctioned last year, used form letters to grant medical excuses during protests at the Capitol Square in February 2011, listing badgerdoctors@gmail.com as their contact information.

The Madison School District considered all such sick notes fraudulent.

In November, the medical board reprimanded seven doctors who wrote sick notes for protesters. The board also made the doctors pay for continuing education in medical record keeping. They are: Mark Beamsley, Hannah Keevil, Bernard Micke, Kathleen Oriel, Louis Sanner and James Shropshire, with UW-Madison's family medicine department; and Adam Balin, with Dean Clinic.

The board gave administrative warnings, which aren't considered disciplinary action, to Ronni Hayon and Patrick McKenna, doctors-in-training at UW-Madison.
