Mary Stranko, 96, Superior, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, in the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 13, 1910, in Fort William, Ontario, Canada to Joseph and Anna (Urban) Zawin, and was a longtime Superior resident.
She was a longtime, devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She was a member of the former St. Adalbert's Catholic Church.
During her 96 years she developed a very deep and true belief and devotion in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. She was a very loving, caring and giving person to everybody and especially her family and will be greatly missed by them.
Mary is survived by two sons, James (Barbara) Stranko and Mike Stranko, both of Superior; three grandchildren, David (Barbara) Stranko, Superior, Nancy (Kirk) Parks, Iowa City, Iowa and Laurie Stranko, Superior; five great-grandchildren, Leslie, Christopher, Jessica, Kevin and Shauna; one brother, Frank (Margaret) Zawin, two sisters, Alvina Willson, Josephine Lier, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, in 1978, one sister, Regena Zawin, an infant brother in Poland, an infant sister in Fort William, Ontario, Canada and five brothers, Bob, Ernie, Arnold, Alphonse and Fred Zawin.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday with a St. Francis Altar Society rosary service, and the visitation continues until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial. Rev. Fr. James Tobolski will be celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be David and Kevin Stranko, Christopher Olson and Kirk Parks.
