Marion J. Kimmes, 78, formerly of Superior, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, in Minneapolis after a lengthy illness.

Marion was born in Superior on April 11, 1929, the daughter of William and Phoebe (Harty) Kimmes.

She attended grade school at Claude Allouez Academy and graduated from Cathedral High School in Superior. She then went on to the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and the College of Mount St. Vincent on the Hudson in Riverside, New York.

After moving to Minneapolis with her family she was employed by Goodwill Industries for 38 years before retiring. Marion was very knowledgeable about antique glassware and had a large collection. She enjoyed shopping, parties and being with her large family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother-in-law and sister, Dr. Bud and Clara Kimmes McGill of Arlington Heights, Ill., brother, Peter and brother-in-law, Jack Cosgrove.

Survivors include her sisters, Dolly Cosgrove, of Gordon, formerly of Minneapolis, and Kathleen (Joel) Cleveland, Plymouth, Minn.; brothers, William (Joanne) Kimmes, Superior, and Robert (Dianne) Kimmes, Merriweather, Mich.; many nieces, nephews, and special friend, Velma Ford.

The visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Avenue and North 19th Street, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior, with the Very Rev. Daniel J. Dahlberg as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Superior.

Pallbearers will be David Cleveland, Richard Cleveland, Matthew Cleveland, Ted Kimmes, Robert Kimmes and William Cosgrove.
