Lorraine M. Ellison, 85, a longtime Superior resident died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a short illness.

Lorraine M. Ellison, 85, a longtime Superior resident died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a short illness.

She was born June 4, 1922, in Superior, daughter of Elsie (Knower) and Ernest Ellison.

Some of her interests included gardening, being outdoors and sports. She also loved reading about them.

She taught fifth grade for one year in Cheyenne, Wyo., two years in Cloquet, and 37 years at the Bryant School in Superior, retiring in 1984. She received the Hall of Fame award in 1993.

She received her pilot's license before teaching in Superior and stopped flying to buy a car.

Her memberships included the United Presbyterian Church and former member of Hammond Avenue Presbyterian Church, Superior Area Retired Educators Association, Wisconsin Retired Educators Association, Camp 1175 Royal Neighbors of America and was an inactive member of the Duluth-Superior Camera Club Association.

Lorraine graduated from Superior Central High School, Class of 1940. She received her bachelor's degree from Superior Teachers College and masters of education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She has contributed to the UWS scholarship fund and the Superior School District scholarship fund.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ernest and Elsie Ellison.

Survivors include her sister, Marian Ellison, Superior, and cousins, Patricia (James) Scanlon, Superior, Marjorie Hope, Texas, Dorothy Johnston, Fla., and David Ellison, St. Cloud, Minn.

The visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service, Monday at the United Presbyterian Church, Superior, with Pastor Joel Huenemann officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Collins, John Lindquist, Don Bronson, James Holmes and Don Larsen.

Should friends desire, memorials in Lorraine's name may be made to the United Presbyterian Church. Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
