MAPLE — The Maple School Board voted in a new president and approved an increase in compensation for teachers at the top of the pay scale at its Monday, May 9, meeting.
Business began with a reorganizational meeting. Danna Livingston-Matherly was named president following a split vote. The board also approved Mike Granlund as vice president, Adam Landwehr as treasurer and Shari Olson as clerk.
Following a move to closed session, the board approved a slight increase in employee health insurance premiums for the 2022-2023 school year, from 9.43% this year to 10% next year.
Board members also approved additional compensation of 1% to teachers who have reached the top step of their respective pay scales for the 2022-2023 school year. That translates into $640 for teachers in the professional lane and $690 for teachers in the masters lane. Teachers who have been at the top of the pay scale for a number of consecutive years would receive a 1% increase for each of those years.
The boost is expected to cost the district roughly $12,000 in salary and fringe benefits for the eight teachers who have hit the top of their pay scale, according to human resources director Wendy Stauty. The board approved the increase for just one year. If the district pay scale is not revised by the 2023-2024 school year, the board will need to decide if they want to continue the 1% increase.

In other business, the board learned that no bids have been received for the house that was built by the Northwestern High School building construction class. It was decided to post the ad again and bring any bids forward to the June meeting. The minimum bid for the house has been set at $53,000.
