My mother-in-law used to say, "Do a good deed daily. If it becomes known, it doesn't count."
I sometimes wonder if she knew Joe Kimmes II. They seemed to live by the same code.
I knew Joe in the 1950s as a neighbor and in the '70s as a state inspector testing his metering equipment. I found him to be a no nonsense business man who became a real asset to his community. Strange how we miss the seeds of greatness in those close to us.
Stand with me and salute, because a great one just passed.
